Soaking
Prayer/Music - Is It Biblical or Mystical?
Overview, soaking music
takes you to altered state of consciousness
Worship enhances focusing on the Lord, while some soaking music
doesn’t do that. The focus of the music is the key. Worship
music is about Jesus and worshiping him. Much of the soaking music
is about us (going inside of self the same the new agers try to
accomplish). This is New Age or Gnosticism thinking:
- Faith and knowledge based primarily on personal or mystical
experience rather than the Word.
- Emphasis on self-knowledge and emotional well-being or healing,
rather than Biblical knowledge of God and His freedom through
the cross and cleansing through His blood (already accomplished).
- Illogical and feeling-based interpretations of His Word.
Worship music extols His greatness, His character. Soaking music
is often filled with prophetic encouragement about the destiny we
have ahead of us. Soaking music may talk about how much we desire
the Lord, the longing of our heart for Him, and that is wonderful,
but it is still about us more than it is about Him (the Lord). This
is not true across the board, but it is a general theme I have noticed.
"Soaking" is at its premise self-serving and may yield
what occult practices do - a false peace and a false joy. I think
it appropriate to compare this “soaking” experience
movement with the occult practices of Yoga and other world religions
which do not honor the one true God by acknowledging Jesus Christ
as the only LORD and Savior. Do pagan world religions not incorporate
this same mindless meditation? Aren’t people instructed to
wait and conjure up things? Doesn’t this seem consistent with
what we see in the “soaking” experiences we see coming
into the church world? The object of worship in false religions
is ultimately self. “Soaking” is waiting and basking
with self-help (helping self) at heart, not worshiping God in Spirit
and in truth (Jn. 4:23-24). Is this not all a vain endeavor to better
our depraved selves? "
Faith, I hope this helps to explain our position here. I don't
want to speak for anyone else, and I'm sure the other sister will
gladly give you their input on this also.
Some of the scriptures used to justify the
use of this music:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I
will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for
I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your
souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew
11:28-30).
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to
lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul” (Psalm 23:1-3).
“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
Find a quiet place - A peaceful environment helps you to become
peaceful on the inside.

What Revival Is: EXPOSING MOVEMENTS Methods of discernment: Do you believe everything being taught or do you check them out through the word of God. The best way to not fall into error if - Who was the founder of this modality
- how do they spend time with God? Do they use contemplative prayer, soaking praise, centering prayer, etc.?
- What was his/her spirituality?
- What culture did it come out of?
- What were their beliefs?
- Who is their God or gods?
- Are they bringing anything into their practices that come from another practice outside of the bible?
- Who was their mentors and their mentors modalities?
Another method of discernment is the word of God. The word of God is our measuring stick. The more we read the word, know the word and have relationship with the Lord, the more we are not going to fall into these occultic practices. If it is not in the word, then don't do it. Two, don't ignore your consciousness when God is showing you something is not completely right. Occultism can have 90% truth and only 10% error to make it wrong. Symptoms of occultism if you been subjected to false teachings, wrong music and new age modalities in the church: - Prolonged depression, heaviness, oppression, gloominess; insomnia, extreme forgetfulness, etc.
- Unable to concentrate at church or read the word without wanting to go to sleep - your mind thinks of a million things
- You feel a band around your head, have fuzziness of the mind, brain fog, etc.
- Chronic fear, anxiety or nervousness, panic attacks, nightmares, etc.
-
- OCD, ADHD diagnosed in adult life. Drivenness - you cannot relax and always have to be doing something. Could something be driving you?
- Hearing voices, chronic doubts, have a hard time trusting God, blasphemous thoughts against God or others, intrusive thoughts, paranoia, extreme fear for no reason, etc.
- Chronic physical ailments that do not respond to prayer or treatment; serious marital or parental problems; strife and discord in the church.
- Extreme allergies, MCSI/EI, throat issues, eye issues, etc.
- Insomnia (cannot sleep, nightmares, etc.)
GOOD ARTICLES BY DR. HOLLIDAY Overview of Lakeland Revival "How arrogant of mere men to be proclaiming they can open heaven and release God's glory. God is the glory giver, and He is the only One who can open His heaven. Furthermore, He only gives His glory to those who walk uprightly."
